Summary

This is the story of three friends Kunle, Kayode and Kemi that want to be successful at all cost so they decided to go to the city of success. They met an old woman who gave them a map to guide them through the journey and warned them not to trade the map for anything. They got to comfort zone first, but when they got to confusion zone Kunle and Kayode traded their map for another map. Kemi continue with the map with her and she faced a lot in her journey but she overcame. Kunle and Kayode got to the city of success fast but were punished for taken the wrong path and were sentence to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour outside the city of success. But Kemi was judge right and she is made the prime minister of the city of Success…..

ACT 1 SCENE 1

Kemi, Kunle and Kayode are sitting at the front of Kemi’s house discussing how to make it in life.

KEMI:              This life isn’t bed of roses, one must be determined, pursue and focus to make it in life.

KUNLE:            True, but we can’t wait for so long, we need to help ourselves out, and heaven helps those that help themselves.

KAYODE:         Kunle, you are right, we need to find a way out. We need to do anything to make it in life. I met a guy yesterday he told me there is a deal on ground that will change our entire financial status. This guy has made it in life, he now drives Prado Jeep.

Kemi:               Where is he now?

KAYODE:         I invited him to meet me here since we will meet today. He will be here in 5 minutes.

As they were talking, Sola walked in. (Sola is the guy Kayode invited)

KAYODE:         Sola welcome. I just discussed the matter with them. Please explain it to them better.

SOLA:              Guys how are you doing? Without wasting your time, this deal is a perfect one; all you have to do is to deliver a package to a customer and you with collect 1.2 million naira each, that’s all. Meet me on the 6^th which is tomorrow, at no 6, Longon Street, by 6pm prompt.

Kunle and Kayode agree to meet Sola, while Kemi disagree not to do deal she have no knowledge of.

KEMI:              Ok guys, see you later. I need to rest my eyes, I am tired.

Kunle and Kayode left for their places as they discuss the matter well on their way.

KUNLE:            Kemi too dey form. I don’t know her problem, and I believe she will come to beg for money after we finish the deal.

KAYODE:         She will join us, she is just scared, leave to me, I will confuse her to take the deal so we can make it together. Girls have soft mind.

KUNLE:            What? You don’t know her at all, she too determined, whenever she says no to something, that is her final, she is too stubborn.

KAYODE:         Let wait and see, I promise you she will join us.

ACT 2 SCENE 1

Kemi is walking with a bag on her back, she is about to enter into the road to the City of Success when she saw an old woman sitting on a chair.

KEMI:              Good morning mama, (she kneels)

OLD WOMAN:            My daughter, how are you? Where are you coming from and where are you going to?

KEMI:              Fine ma, I am going to the City of Success mama.

OLA WOMAN:            That is a long journey… what do you take along for the journey?

KEMI:              Mama; I have determination, focus, persistence, endurance, passion and the likes in my bag. I also have water with me.

OLD WOMAN:            Good my daughter, but those are not enough for the journey, you need a road map for the journey and have faith in the map that it will lead you to good success. My daughter, never lose sight of the map or exchange it for something else. There is no good short cut to the city. Go with grace and mercy.

KEMI:              Thank you mama, I am very grateful ma. I will take to all what you told me and never forget any. I need to get going ma, bye.

OLD WOMAN:            May God be with you.

KEMI:              Amen.

Kemi embark on her journey to the city of success

ACT 2 SCENE 2

Few seconds after, Kayode and Kunle are coming toward mama. They both pass by without greeting mama, but out of compassion, mama call them.

OLD WOMAN:            Little children, where are you going to?

KAYODE & KUNLE:     (Reluctantly) well-done ma.

KUNLE:            We don’t have anything to give you that is why we don’t bother to waste your time. Moreover, mama we are going on a serious journey that is why we want to avoid all un-necessary delay.

OLD WOMAN:            I understand, I need nothing from you. What do you have inside your bags?

KAYODE:      Ma, that is confidential, and personal. Like my friend said earlier, we don’t have time.

KUNLE:         What do you have for us is like you have something for us since you said you need nothing from us? (The both laughed)

Mama gave both the same thing she gave to Kemi. As he was about to explain to them what those things mean, they said mama don’t worry we will go through all on the way. And they put their maps inside their bags and went their way.

Mama nodded her head as she watched them walking away listening to no instruction.

ACT 2 SCENE 3

Not quit long when Kayode notice Kemi from afar.

KAYODE:      Kunle, can you see what I can see?

KUNLE:         What?

KAYODE:      See Kemi,

KUNLE:         Now I see her, what is she doing on this part? She can’t even call us?

KAYODE:      Kemi (calling her) hey! Wait for us.

Kemi looks behind and see them, so she waits for them. They share pleasantries, show each other what they have in bags and decide to walk together for the journey.

KUNLE:         You can’t even called us along with you that is bad of you.

KEMI:           Sorry guys, I thought you have different place to go. Don’t be offended please.

KAYODE:      Apology accepted. Let help each other achieve the journey to the City.

KUNLE:         Ok, I forgive you, let move on.

KEMI:           Thanks guys.

ACT 2 SCENE 4

COMFORT ZONE

Few minutes after; they get to a place called Comfort Zone. Here there is a Lady in beautiful cloth known has Mrs. Comfort. She challenge them of where they are coming from and where they are going, and they tell her.

MRS COMFORT:  Ok guys, you must be stressed up now, sit down relax, eat and drink. You don’t have to waste your precious time going to the city that you can’t reach with empty stomach. The truth is you can’t get there.

As they are discussing, a guy named Dayo meet them there, Mr Comfort confuse him also and he decide to stay while they (Kunle, Kemi and Kayode) move aside to discuss what to do.

MRS. COMFORT: Since you have decided to stay Mr. Dayo, you will need to release all you have with you because you won’t need it here.

DAYO:          Ma, no problem. Please give me pounded yam and egusi soup with bush meat and cow tail. Please add a good wine.

MRS. COMFORT: Whatever you need is available here…… eat drink and enjoy yourself

KUNLE:         (Perceiving the aroma of the food) Guys this woman is a good cook o, can’t you perceive the aroma of her food. Let think. I can see all kind of food here, even the ones I haven’t eaten in my life. Kayode Kemi talk now.

KEMI:           Though the food smell nice, but take a look at the people sitting and eating here you can see that they are comfortable and can’t move forward again in their life. This is where they will end their lives.

Kayode is looking and listening to both of them.

KUNLE:         If that is the case, we can eat and run away. Kayode what do you suggest.

KAYODE:      Fool! Run away to where? Can’t you see how she collected that guy’s road map or can’t you see those eaten are no more with their road map. They must have exchanged it for the food.

KEMI:           You are right Kayode, without the map there is no way we can get to the city.

KUNLE:         Ok guys have heard you let move on before her charm catches us.

Kemi, Kunle and Kayode decide to move on with their journey. Though they are tired but persist on.  

Not quite long they get to another junction with another man called Wig man.

CORRUPTION & CONFUSION ZONE

ACT 2 SCENE 5

WIG MAN:   Hey, from where to where? (Kemi and the two stammer; we are going to…)Hey don’t stammer, I know where you must be going to. To the City of Success, and I know you must have met with an Old woman telling you some lies about the journey. I can’t blame her, she hasn’t been there, I have been there many times it is easy than what she told you. (Pause)

(All of them look afraid as Wig man continue his talk)

Check the map in your hands you will see shadow of death, mountain of sorrow and feed of weakness. There is no way you can pass through…..

(They become scared)

KUNLE:         Sir, is there a way out? Help us please (requesting in fear)

WIG MAN:   There is always a way out, but only for the wise

(Then Kemi remember what Old woman told her not to compromise her map for anything).

WIG MAN:   There is a map that will take you to your destination without stress. Here is it.

Kayode and Kunle decide to take the short cut but Kemi refuses and tries to confuse them not to take the map, then Kayode reply;

 KAYODE:     I can’t die, I can’t waste my time. This mountain, sorrow of death and feed of weakness, how are we going to pass through them? I eventually know that the Old woman want us to perish that is why she gave us map that will lead us to our early death. Kunle you may follow Kemi to perish, but I am not ready to die young………

KUNLE:         Neither am I ready to die, I will take the new map to the City of Success. Whichever way we take, getting there is what is important not how we get there…….

WIG MAN:   Since you are ready, you have to hand me the useless map first. I have to tear it so you can have access to the new map. (He collect the maps from them and give them the new map)

           

(Wig man hugs Kunle and Kayode for their  and show them the short cut way to success while Kemi follows the map she hold to the right hand side of the Wig man)

ACT 3 SCENE 1

HIGH MOUNTAIN

(Now it remains only Kemi. She takes the step of faith as she continues her journey. After some kilometres she reaches the mountain of sorrow and she was tempted to go back. But she encourage herself in the Lord.)

KEMI:           Lord this mountain is too high than I can climb, there isn’t any way I can pass either (then a voice speaks to her mind: you can still go back, the mountain is bigger than you, if the Lord want you to go through this way He won’t have put this mountain there. Then another voice speaks; check the map you have, it is your guide to the city).

(Then Kemi check properly on the spot the mountain of sorrow is located on the map, and she sees a hint that says; “speak to the mountain”)

How can I speak to the mountain? I don’t understand. (Contemplating on it, she remember the word of God Mar 11:23 that says; “thou shall speak to this mountain go from here to there and it shall be so”). You mountain of sorrow I tell you to move from my way in Jesus name.

(The mountain disappear, she rejoice and she continue her journey.)

ACT 3 SCENE 2

THE VALLEY DEATH

Kemi reach the shadow of death. This place is full of Snakes, Scorpions, Lions, Tigers and lots of dangerous things. She meet two men at the entrance of the valley.

MAN IN BLACK:          Young lady, don’t endanger your life by entering this valley, there is no way you can survive it. You can still go back.

MAN IN WHITE: Young man, don’t be discouraged, you have come too far to go back, look carefully in your map, there is always a way out. Remember God will never tempt you with what your faith can’t handle. Look carefully.

(Kemi was about to open the map when the Man in Black continue to discourage her)

MAN IN BLACK:          Do not worry yourself to open the map because there can’t be any way out of here. Ask yourself why we are standing here without the valley? (Pause) it is because the valley is too dangerous, that is why we stand outside, after all the mountain is gone, you can still go back it is never too .……..

MAN IN WHITE: Young Lady don’t listen to him, he is a deceiver, and a liar. We are here to do our jobs. His job is to stop you, my job is to help you go through. Study the map very well.

(This act continues for sometimes with advice from both sides when Kemi decides to take the step of faith to look and follow what is in the map)

KEMI:           (Reading the map out loud after proper study. She step inside the valley as she speaks on). “Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil”. “There shall no evil before me neither any plague comes near my dwelling”, “He shall keep his Angels charge over me to bear me in their hands so that I won’t hit my foot against any stones”, (louder) “I shall tread upon snakes and adder: the young lion and the dragon shall I trample under my feet. …(plus the rest of Psalm 91).

(By the time she finished speaking, all these things could not harm her, and he walk through successfully. Then a man appear to give him a golden key of success

After the Valley of death, Kemi saw the gate of success from distance but she is very tired)

ACT 3 SCENE 3

THE CITY OF SUCCESS

                     (Here there is a gate keeper, a Judge who attends to every person that just come from their journey, and two guards)

KAYODE:      Kunle, we finally made it to….

KUNLE:         City of success at last. Ha! I believe Kemi would have been dead by now in the valley of death. She is too adamant and....

KAYODE:      What valley! How will she climb the mountain? I am sure she would have gone back to Confusion zone to take the short way to success like us…..

KUNLE:         That is her problem, let go inside.

GATE KEEPER: Sirs, can I help you?

KAYODE:      (Laughingly) we are the success people and we are entering the city of success. Aren’t we Kunle?

KUNLE:         Yes we are the candidate of success, born to be successful. We came we saw and we conquer. Mr. Gateman let us in.

GATE KEEPER: Where is your map?

KAYODE and KUNLE: We have it here

GATE KEEPER: Go inside, you will see a judge in a big house by the right, he will tell you where you belong.

KEMI:           (From afar calling) Kunle, Kayode (but they couldn’t hear her because of their excitement as they walk toward the big house. Now she reaches the gate). Gate Keeper I am here to be successful, what next should I do.

GATE KEEPER: You must be tired, well done, I am glad for you. I pity those two guys for the great punishment they have brought upon themselves and they rejoice as if they don’t know the gravity of their offence.

KEMI:           They are my friends but…….

GATE KEEPER: How come they took the wrong path and you take the right path? You will see for yourself when you get to the judge. I know the judge will delay them till you get there so they will know what they did wrong. Go inside, you will see a judge in a big house by the right, he will tell you where you belong.

KEMI:           Thank you sir.

(Kunle and Kayode are delayed till Kemi enters)

THE JUDGE:  Young men, welcome to the city of success, where is your map?

KUNLE AND KAYODE:            Here is it sir (as they are about to give the fake map to Judge, the Old woman enters… Talking to each other)

KUNLE:         How did this woman got here? But that man said she can’t get here. How did she pass us?

KAYODE:      I am surprise, we are doomed, she must be an angel, this is a …….

THE JUDGE:  Give the map to Mama, she will confirm if it is original or fake

OLD WOMAN:            Where did you get this map? Where is the map I gave you? (Pause, Kunle and Kayode couldn’t answer but shaking) I warned you not to trade this map for anything, but you won’t listen to instruction. Judge, send them to where they belong.

THE JUDGE:  Definitely you must have taking the short cut to this city. That attitude against the law of success, and anyone that does that will be sent to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour. Yours will serve as a lesson to others taking short cut to success not to….

(While Kunle and Kayode are hold by two guards Kemi greets)

KEMI:           Good evening ma and sir…..

OLD WOMAN:            Welcome. Where is your map?

KEMI:           This is it ma….

OLD WOMAN:            Judge, this map is the exact map I gave her, and she have taking the right way, send her to where she belong.

THE JUDGE:  Good job young lady, welcome to the joy of your lord, you will enjoy all the good of the city, here is your house key, car keys……. (Kunle and Kayode start begging with tears on their faces) Here is no place for begging, you are to reap what you sow…. Guards take them away… Kemi, you are welcome once again.

(Kemi shout for joy)

KEMI:           Thank God I made, wow! And I warned you guys not to take short cut but you take me for a fool……

ACT 4 SCENE 1

(Kemi just wake up from her dream)

KEMI:           Yawning, so it a dream, (she prays over the dream) I need to go out today for application in the remaining companies on my list. (Before then she do house works, take her bath, and dress up. Then her phone ring). Who is calling me this early morning! (Talking to herself as she pick her phone) Hello! Please who am I speaking with?

MAN ON PHONE:       This is Fred from KADE Oil Company, am I on to Miss. Kemi?

KEMI:           Yes Sir, I am Kemi Olaiya.

FRED:            You have been selected as the new Staff in our Company, you are to resume tomorrow. Please help us to inform Mr. Kunle and Mr. Kayode they have been selected, their number is not available. They also need to resume tomorrow morning by 8pm, thank you

 KEMI:          Thank you sir, God bless you. We shall be there early morning tomorrow before 8am. (Call end). Wow! God has finally done it for us, I told these guys God will answer our prayers, they said they can’t wait again, see now. I need to get this information to them this is past 9, (as she is about to lock her front door, a neighbour called Cynthia greets her)

CYNTHIA:     Kemi good morning! How was your night?

KEMI:           Morning Cynthia, my night was fine, sorry I won’t be able to wait for any discussion…

CYNTHIA:     Where are you going to in hurry?

KEMI:           To Kayode and Kunle’s house…..

CYNTHIA:     So you haven’t heard!

KEMI:           What?

CYNTHIA:     That both of them were arrested last night. I saw it in the new this morning. They are now in Moore police station

KEMI:           Police! It can’t be true, what is their offence?

CYNTHIA:     The news said they were in possession of two human heads in a bag. I never trust those guys, thank God you were not with them, and they would have implicate you.

KEMI:           (In tears sitting on the floor). This can’t be true, I warned them not to go for deal they don’t know about. They must have gone for the deal, and now the deal is dealing with them.

ACT 4 SCENE 2

(She rush down to the police station, and see both of them in cell, well beaten. The police officer in charge gave Kemi 2mins to see them). Guys what have you done to yourself?

KAYODE:      (While Kunle remain silence). You warned us but we refuse to take the deal. We don’t know what is inside the bag we were told to deliver is human head. We were deceived to be a package……..

KUNLE:         (Interrupt) Instantly 1million naira each was sent to our bank account and we were promised to get another 1million naira each will be given to us if we deliver it successful……

KAYODE:      We busted in to laughter, not knowing it will be our end, now see what deaf hears have done to us.

KEMMI:        (With tears holding their hands) KADE Oil Company called me to resume tomorrow for the job we did interview last year. I was told to inform you to also resume, I believe they haven’t heard the news. But now the job is useless, you have wasted a great chance. You have to get a sound lawyer, at least so they can reduce your punishment.

KUNLE:         I am happy for you. I pray God will save us from this mess we brought upon ourselves.

KEMI:           Amen. Have you called your parents?

KAYODE:      They were here early this morning, but they aren’t happy with us. But we told them we didn’t kill those people that it was a trap that we fall into.

POLICE OFFICER:        Madam, your time is over, please you have to leave now.

KEMI:           OK guys, I have to leave now.

(Kemi leave the Station as the policeman took Kunle and Kayode back into their cell)
